Ogun Royal Family Appeals to Tinubu Over Awujale Selection

The Olowu family of Ijebu Ode has formally requested President Bola Tinubu's intervention regarding the suspension of the selection process for a new Awujale, the paramount ruler of Ijebuland. In a statement made available to journalists on Monday, the family urged President Tinubu to direct Governor Dapo Abiodun to lift the suspension, allowing the kingmakers to complete the selection without further delay.

The suspension has raised widespread concern among citizens, as the Awujale stool is seen as a cornerstone of peace and stability in Ogun State. The family highlighted that the delay could disrupt traditional festivals, particularly the upcoming Ileya Muslim festival and the Ojud Oba festival, which are significant cultural events.

They emphasized the urgency of resolving the impasse to prevent legal crises and restore peace in the region. The appeal marks the third written request to address the ongoing issues surrounding the selection process, which has created significant tension and uncertainty in Ijebuland.
