Ijebu Land Awujale Selection Process Stalled Amid Corruption Probe

The selection process for a new Awujale of Ijebuland, following the death of Oba Sikiru Adetona in July 2025, has faced delays. The Fusengbuwa Royal Family, responsible for the process, had 95 candidates nominated, with 94 princes and one princess considered.

However, the state government halted the process for the second time due to flooding and alleged corruption involving the kingmakers. The kingmakers, led by Dr.

Sunni Kuku, were set to begin the selection process before the government's intervention. The police are investigating bribery and corruption allegations against the kingmakers, with the State Police Command confirming an ongoing probe.

The police have summoned the kingmakers for questioning, with Chief Rashe Adesanya receiving an invitation to clarify the allegations at the police command.
