Tinubu Urged to Resolve Awujale Selection Crisis

The Keregbetu Family and the Fusengbuwa Ruling House have formally requested President Bola Tinubu's intervention regarding the ongoing selection impasse for the new Awujale of Ijebuland. This appeal follows the suspension of the selection process by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, which has created considerable tension and uncertainty across Ijebuland.

The family expressed concerns that the suspension could jeopardize the upcoming Ileya festival and the globally recognized Ojud Oba festival, potentially affecting tourism and revenue for Ogun State. The appeal marks the third written request to the President, emphasizing the urgency of the situation as the Awujale stool became vacant in July 2025 after the death of Oba Sikiru Adetona, who reigned for 65 years.

The family warned that failure to install a new Awujale before the festivals could have detrimental effects on cultural participation and tourism, as many in the diaspora may refrain from traveling to Nigeria.
