Ijebu Ode Ruling House Urges Lift of Selection Embargo

The Fusengbuwa ruling house in Ijebu Ode, represented by Abdulateef Owoyemi, has voiced its disappointment regarding the ongoing delay in appointing a new Awujale, the paramount ruler of Ijebuland. The selection process has been halted by the Ogun State government for the second time since January 2025, following a statement from Ganiyu Hamzat, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, citing procedural errors.

The Awujale stool became vacant in July 2025 after the death of Oba Sikiru Adetona at age 91. Despite having 95 aspirants, including 94 princes and princesses, the ruling house has urged the governor to lift the embargo to allow the kingmaking process to resume.

Owoyemi emphasized the urgency of concluding the selection process, as the people of Ijebuland are anxious for a new Awujale. He noted that various leaders have sought an audience with the governor to address the situation, which remains unresolved.
