Keregbetu Family Appeals to Tinubu on Awujale Selection

The Keregbetu family, representing the Fusengbuwa ruling house, has formally requested President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's intervention regarding the prolonged selection process for the new Awujale of Ijebuland. In a statement issued on Monday in Abeokuta, family head Adegboyega Hanifata Olowu urged President Tinubu and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun to lift the suspension on the selection process, which has been stalled for an extended period.

The family expressed that the delay is causing heightened anxiety across Ijebuland and jeopardizing the installation of a new monarch, which is crucial for cultural heritage and socio-economic stability in Ogun State. The Awujale stool has been vacant since July 2025, following the death of the revered monarch, Oba Sikiru Kayod Adetona.

The family noted that the failure to install a new Awujale could adversely affect tourism and cultural celebrations, particularly the upcoming Ileya Eid el-Kabir festival. They emphasized the need for a transparent and fair selection process to avoid further tension within the ancient kingdom.
