Babachir Lawal's Exit from ADC Anticipated Amid Tensions

Babachir Lawal's exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is expected after the departures of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso. Lauretta Onochie, a prominent ADC member and former aide to the president, stated that Lawal's departure was predictable.

She alleged that Lawal has maintained a long-standing political opposition to Atiku Abubakar, the ADC's presidential candidate, which dates back to a period when Bola Tinubu and Atiku found common political ground. Onochie claimed that Lawal's opposition has evolved into persistent hostility aimed at diminishing Abubakar's influence.

She noted that Lawal's attempts to create divisions within the ADC ahead of the 2026 presidential primaries have failed, as party members overwhelmingly support Abubakar. Onochie also accused Lawal of exploiting religious sentiments during political contests in Adamawa State.

The ADC remains committed to its ideals, emphasizing the need for unity and loyalty among its members.
