ADC Responds to Obi and Kwankwaso's Departures

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has acknowledged the recent exits of Peter Obi from the Labour Party and Rabiu Kwankwaso from the New Nigeria Peoples Party as setbacks, but not fatal blows to the party's ambitions for the 2027 elections. Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC's national publicity secretary, stated in an interview on Monday that while the departures are disappointing, they do not alter the party's objectives.

Abdullahi expressed that the ADC aims to foster a broad opposition coalition for the upcoming elections, despite the challenges posed by the exits. He noted that the ADC's prospects may be weakened but emphasized that past electoral performance does not guarantee future success.

Abdullahi also highlighted the internal pressures that the party faced and suggested that the departures could provide some relief to focus on internal dynamics. He warned that ongoing litigation could undermine democracy and urged that opposition parties should not be seen as enemies but rather as partners in the democratic process.
