Ndume Urges Action on Security Emergency Declaration

Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District, has called on President Bola Tinubu to back the nationwide security emergency declaration with concrete actions. This declaration, made in November, aims to bolster military recruitment and operations against insurgency.

Ndume emphasized the need for the Nigerian Armed Forces to conduct consistent clearance operations in critical areas such as Lake Chad, Sambisa Forest, and Mandara Mountain, which have been hotspots for insurgent attacks. He highlighted recent coordinated attacks, including the Ngosh massacre, as evidence of the ongoing threat.

Ndume urged the President to implement regular briefings on Nigeria's efforts to tackle banditry and insurgency, particularly in the northeastern region. He also called for the military budget to be prioritized to procure necessary arms and ammunition, noting that the current military budget is less than 10 percent of the overall national budget, which is insufficient to combat sophisticated weaponry used by terrorist groups.
