Bagudu Enhances Nigeria's Economic Planning Framework

Since assuming the role of Minister of Budget and Economic Planning in August 2023, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has been integral to President Bola Tinubu’s economic team, working to implement the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. His tenure has coincided with significant economic adjustments in Nigeria, including the removal of petrol subsidies and foreign exchange reforms.

A key achievement was the negotiation and signing of the 2024 Appropriation Bill on January 1, 2024, which restored the January-to-December fiscal cycle, enhancing the connection between planning and execution for government agencies. This restoration has improved visibility for businesses and investors regarding public expenditure.

Bagudu’s ministry has also been active in supplementary appropriations to address emerging priorities such as security and infrastructure, ensuring the budget remains responsive to changing economic realities while serving as the main tool for translating government priorities into expenditures.
