Civil Group Accuses NAFDAC DG of Office Abuse Over Ban

The civil society group, Concerned Citizens Change, has publicly accused the Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye, of alleged office abuse regarding the enforcement of a ban on sachet alcohol products, specifically those in 200ml PET bottles.

During a press conference in Abuja, group leader Comrade Haruna Adamu stated that the enforcement of this ban contradicts provisions of the national alcohol policy and a directive from the Federal Ministry of Health. The group expressed concerns that the ban could disrupt operations and negatively impact companies, especially amid economic challenges.

They referenced a resolution from the House of Representatives on March 14, 2024, which called for a review of NAFDAC's actions. The group argued that sachet alcohol products cater to low-income consumers and that the ban could lead to increased illicit trade and job losses.

They urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and remove Adeyeye from her position.
