MAN and Unions Criticize NAFDAC's Ban on Sachet Alcohol Sales, Citing Economic Concerns

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and labor unions have condemned the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for its ban on sachet alcohol sales, stating it will harm businesses. MAN's Director-General, Segun Ajayi Kadir, criticized NAFDAC's actions, warning of negative economic impacts and job losses in the wine and spirit sub-sector.

While faceless groups support NAFDAC, the Association of Senior Staff of Food, Beverage, and Tobacco Employees challenges NAFDAC to provide evidence of sachet alcohol consumption by children. The ban has sparked protests and concerns about the influx of illicit products and loss of government revenue.

Ajayi Kadir urged the federal government to intervene and stop disrupting member activities. NAFDAC's recent actions contradict previous resolutions and lack stakeholder engagement, raising fears of unintended consequences for the industry and economy.
