Bandit Attacks Surge in Nigeria's South-west Region

The South-west region of Nigeria is experiencing a significant increase in bandit attacks, with residents living in constant fear. States such as Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, and Oyo are particularly affected, with recent incidents including a massacre at a Catholic church in Ondo State.

In a recent attack, gunmen invaded a church during an open-air crusade in Ekiti State, killing the pastor and abducting several worshippers. The situation has worsened due to the unchecked activities of terrorists fleeing from military operations in the North.

The failure of federal security agencies to address these threats has prompted state governors in the South-west to take action. Governor Lai has emphasized the need for decisive measures to confront the existing threats rather than waiting for federal intervention.

The Amotekun Corp, established during Muhammadu Buhari's administration, has been highlighted as a potential solution, although its effectiveness has been challenged by federal government limitations.
