Bandits Kill Councilor and Director in Zamfara State

In Zamfara State, bandits murdered councilor Habibu Jangeb, representing Jangeb Ward, and director Alhaji Jamilu Sani of Talata Mafara Local Government. The killings were reportedly in retaliation for alleged payments made to the Lakurawa terrorist group to prevent attacks in the community.

Sources indicated that the two officials had been delivering money to the Lakurawa group monthly. Following the incident, Yahaya Yari, the chairman of Talata Mafara Local Government, described the killings as tragic but dismissed the allegations against the victims as baseless.

Yari stated that the local government does not negotiate with terrorists and emphasized ongoing efforts to combat banditry in the area. He also mentioned that the government would not fund the Lakurawa terrorists, labeling such claims as misinformation.

The DSS is aware of the situation and is working to address the banditry issue in the region.
