Bandits Attack Travelers in Zamfara, Killing Village Head

On May 18, 2026, bandits attacked travelers in Zamfara, leading to the death of a village head and the abduction of a revenue officer. The incident occurred in the Jangeb community, where Hon. Yahaya Yari, the chairman of Talata Mafara Local Government Area, confirmed the tragic event.

He described the situation as unfortunate and stated that the council made several efforts to secure the release of the abducted officials. However, the bandits reportedly insisted on not negotiating for ransom, indicating a clear intent to kill anyone abducted in the Jangeb community.

A source revealed that five people were traveling in a vehicle when they were ambushed. The village head was shot dead for resisting the bandits, while the director of planning, Jamilu Sani, managed to escape with two others.

The security situation in the area continues to deteriorate, with concerns raised about the safety of travel routes, particularly the Mayanchi-Anka-Gummi road.
