DSS Warns of Planned Mass Kidnapping in Edo State

The Department of State Services (DSS) issued a security memo alerting about a potential mass kidnapping of schoolchildren in Edo State, specifically targeting the Edo North senatorial district. The intelligence report indicates that two suspects, identified as Bawa Nuhu, discussed changing their strategy after previous attempts to kidnap wealthy individuals failed.

They allegedly agreed to abduct schoolchildren to attract government attention, potentially leading to larger ransom payments. Following this intelligence, the DSS arrested a 25-year-old man named Emmanuel Momidu, who was reportedly surveilling around Makek Secondary School in the Akoko Edo Local Government Area.

The DSS has advised security agencies to enhance protection around educational institutions, particularly in vulnerable communities in Edo North, and recommended the deployment of security personnel and collaboration with local vigilante groups to improve intelligence gathering. Parents and school administrators have been urged to remain vigilant as security efforts intensify to prevent possible attacks.
