DSS and Army Prevent Kidnapping of WAEC Students

On Wednesday, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Army successfully foiled a significant attempt by members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) to abduct students during the West African Senior School Certificate Examination in Southeast Nigeria. The operation, conducted in Enugu State, was based on credible intelligence regarding the ESN's plans to attack schools in Enugu, Anambra, and Imo states.

During the raid on an ESN armory in Agbani, the security forces recovered a cache of high-caliber arms, including eight AK-47 rifles, 12 AK-47 magazines, 323 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a smoke grenade launcher, and various NYSC uniforms. The operation resulted in the arrest of several suspects, heightening concerns over the resurgence of school kidnappings in Nigeria, which have drawn national and international attention in recent years.
