Central Bank of Kenya Warns Against Banknote Bouquets

The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) issued a warning regarding the trend of creating banknote bouquets, particularly popular around Valentine's Day. This practice involves folding, rolling, and gluing cash into floral arrangements, which the CBK declared illegal as it defaces national currency.

The bank emphasized that altering banknotes could lead to their rejection by automated teller machines (ATMs) and cash counting machines, resulting in unnecessary replacement costs for the public and banks. The warning has sparked mixed reactions across Kenyan society, with some expressing relief at the financial implications of the trend.

While the CBK does not oppose cash gifts, it insists that such presents should not damage the notes. The central bank's decree aims to curb this flourishing trend, which poses a serious legal threat and is considered an act of vandalism.
