NFIU Reports 42,082 Suspicious Transactions in 2025
The Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) reported that in 2025, banks, fintech operators, and other reporting entities submitted a total of 42,082 Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) due to tighter regulatory oversight. The NFIU's 2025 Annual Report also indicated that it received 41,716,214 Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs) and 10,513 Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) during the year.
Deposit Money Banks were the largest contributors, filing 38,715 STRs, which is approximately 92% of the total. Other Financial Institutions submitted 2,185 STRs, while Designated Non-Financial Businesses and Professions filed 1,029 reports.
The report highlighted that banks also filed 8,313 of the 10,513 SARs. The NFIU collaborates with various regulatory bodies, including the Central Bank of Nigeria and the National Insurance Commission, to ensure compliance with anti-money laundering laws.
The report noted that financial institutions are required to report transactions exceeding N5 million for individuals and N10 million for legal entities within seven days.
