Barcelona Withdraws from European Super League Amid Controversy

Barcelona has formally announced its withdrawal from the European Super League project, a move that comes after Real Madrid's continued involvement. The decision was confirmed by Barcelona President Joan Laporta, citing the club's desire to reestablish connections with UEFA.

The European Super League project, which initially involved 12 clubs and was launched in 2021, faced significant backlash and collapsed quickly due to fan and institutional pressure. Real Madrid's President, Florentino Perez, has been a vocal supporter of the Super League but is now favoring a return to peace with UEFA.

Barcelona, as a member of the European Football Club Association (ECA), aims to maintain a close relationship with UEFA, the governing body of European football. The Super League project has faced legal challenges, with a Spanish court ruling against it in 2024.

Real Madrid and the A22 Sport Management Group have sought damages from UEFA following the failed Super League venture.
