Basketball Africa League Launches Refurbished Courts in Africa

The Basketball Africa League (BAL) announced the unveiling of six newly refurbished basketball courts in Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, and Senegal, supporting NBA Africa's initiative to build or renovate 1,000 courts across the continent over the next decade. The first two courts were unveiled on September 30 in Saint-Louis, Senegal, in collaboration with Société des Pétroles du Sénégal, and on October 3 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, in partnership with Wave Côte d’Ivoire.
Additional courts will be unveiled through December in Dakar, Joal, Guédiawaye, and Owerri, Nigeria, in collaboration with various organizations including Ville de Dakar, Woodside Energy, and Qatar Foundation. Each court features upgraded playing surfaces, spectator seating, and new basketball stanchions, with some sites also offering modernized changing rooms and sanitation facilities.
BAL President Amadou Gallo Fall stated that these courts reflect a commitment to investing in communities and making basketball accessible to youth. The unveiling is supported by Chiney Ogwumike, a two-time WNBA All-Star and BAL Ambassador, through her nonprofit organization, Queens of the Continent.
