Bauchi State Disburses N11.7bn to Retirees for Gratuities

On September 24, 2026, the Bauchi State Government commenced the disbursement of N11.7 billion to settle outstanding gratuities owed to 5,736 retired civil servants from both the State and Local Government Areas (LGAs) whose benefits have been unpaid since 2012 to 2016. Governor Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, represented by Deputy Governor Rt Hon Auwal Jatau, flagged off the payment at the Sub-treasury office.

The total outstanding obligation is N11,704,200,221.83, with N6,132,505,444.44 owed to 3,570 state retirees and N5,579,694,779.39 to 2,256 local government retirees. An initial N10 billion has been approved for the payment, which will occur in batches based on various factors.

A committee led by Alhaji Sabiu Baba is coordinating the exercise with the Bauchi State Contributory Pension Commission. The government aims to eliminate bureaucratic obstacles and prioritize elderly and physically challenged retirees during the verification process.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to address pension obligations and improve workers' welfare.
