Nasarawa State Government Allocates N2.13bn for Retirees

The Nasarawa State Government has approved the payment of N2,135,534,997.11 for outstanding gratuities owed to 608 retirees from 2013. This announcement was made by the Commissioner for Finance, Hajiya Munirat Abdullahi.
The approved amount covers all verified state retirees with outstanding gratuities for that year. Additionally, local government councils have been instructed to settle outstanding gratuities up to 2012, estimated at N2.3 billion.
This approval is part of the administration's ongoing efforts to clear gratuity arrears dating back to 1999. Governor Abdullahi Sule, who took office in 2019, emphasized the need to reform the gratuity system to ensure retirees receive their entitlements.
The state had previously paid gratuities from 1996 to 2011 and allocated N1.6 billion for full payment of 2012 gratuities. In 2025, over N5 billion was released to address backlogs from 1999 to 2012, and a quarterly payment model for retirees was initiated.
Payments for the 2013 retirees will be processed through the Ministry of Finance and the Pensions Bureau after final verification.
