Bauchi State and UNFPA Launch Healthcare Financing Committee

The Bauchi State Government, with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), inaugurated a State Steering Committee on Actuarial Analysis to develop strategies for making healthcare services affordable, sustainable, accessible, and equitable. The committee was inaugurated by the State Commissioner of Health and Social Welfare, Dr Mohammed Sani Dambam, following a three-day capacity-building program funded by UNFPA in collaboration with the Bauchi State Health Contributory Management Agency (BASHCMA).

The training focused on health financing and actuarial analysis, marking the beginning of UNFPA’s support in this area. Dambam emphasized the committee's role in ensuring effective healthcare delivery, particularly for vulnerable groups.

Dr Oluwatosin Kolade from UNFPA highlighted the initiative's importance in improving healthcare financing and reducing maternal and newborn mortality. UNFPA Resident Representative for Nigeria, Ms Muriel Mafico, reiterated the agency's commitment to the partnership and assured continued support for the state’s social health insurance scheme.
