Bayelsa Governor Diri Praises Tinubu's Sports Reforms

Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri commended President Bola Tinubu for his efforts to restructure sports administration in Nigeria. This commendation occurred during the 2026 extraordinary general assembly of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) held at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Memorial Banquet Hall in Yenagoa on Tuesday.

Represented by Deputy Peter Akp, Diri expressed optimism that the transition to a new ministry structure and commission system would improve governance and bring sports administration closer to stakeholders. He applauded the ongoing refurbishment of the national stadium in Abuja and wished success to the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko.

Diri highlighted the construction of a 30,000-capacity FIFA-standard stadium in Igbogen, Yenagoa, designed to position Bayelsa as a hub for international sports events. He stressed the need for fair, transparent, and inclusive reforms in sports governance, which depend on credible leadership.

The event was attended by various football bodies and officials, including NFF General Secretary Moham Sanusi.
