Douye Diri Wins Best Sports Governor Award at Ceremony

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State was honored with the Best Sports Governor Award at the Newstap/SWAN Five-Star Award ceremony held over the weekend. The award recognizes his significant contributions to the development of sports infrastructure in the state.

Diri's administration has been noted for its efforts in reducing youth restiveness in the oil-producing region by creating job opportunities through sports. The event featured several dignitaries, including Hon.

Daniel Igali, the Director General of the National Institute of Sports, and Comrade Philip Shaibu, the Chief Executive Officer of Nilayo Sports Limited. Diri's government has initiated various sports programs, including the Douye Diri Wrestling Championship and a 10-kilometer marathon, in partnership with Nilayo Sports Limited.

The state has also been granted the right to host the 2027 National Sports Festival, further emphasizing its commitment to sports development. The recognition by Newstap and SWAN highlights the dedication of individuals and organizations in advancing sports in Nigeria.
