Bayelsa Imposes Curfew After Fatal Clashes in Community

The Bayelsa State Government has declared a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Ogboinbiri Community, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, starting April 28, 2026, from 6 PM to 6 AM daily until further notice. This decision follows violent clashes that led to the death of residents and heightened tensions in the area.

The conflict reportedly began when Mr. Experience Pere, a former youth president of the community, was accused of possessing a stolen metal electric pole, leading to a retaliatory attack against individuals believed to be connected to Maxwell, a man involved in the incident.

The clashes resulted in injuries and forced many residents to flee their homes. The Southern Ijaw Local Government Council condemned the violence and called for security agencies to apprehend those responsible.

The Bayelsa State Police Command confirmed the deployment of tactical teams to restore order and urged residents to remain calm and report suspicious activities.
