Bayelsa State Government Boosts Workers' Salaries in 2026

The Bayelsa State Government has revealed that the implementation of newly approved special allowances for public servants and workers in tertiary institutions will raise its monthly salary expenditure by about N3bn, effective from October 2026. Timipre Seipolu, Technical Adviser on Treasury, Accounts, and Revenue to Governor Douye Diri, stated that over N900m would be allocated to workers in tertiary institutions, while other public servants would see an increase of approximately N2bn due to peculiar allowances.
Seipolu noted that the government would also address outstanding arrears from January 2026. The total increase in the monthly salary bill will thus amount to around N3bn.
He emphasized that the state has approximately 65,411 workers under its salary payment arrangements and that different categories of public sector workers have distinct salary structures, making it inappropriate to use a uniform salary estimate for calculating the wage bill.
