BCPG Raises Concern Over Safety of High-Rise Buildings in Lagos Island After GNI Fire

The Building Collapse Prevention Guild (BCPG) in Lagos Island expressed alarm over the safety of high-rise buildings after the devastating fire at Great Nigeria Insurance (GNI) house during the Christmas season. The BCPG Secretary, Mubarak Gbaja-Biamila, and Coordinator, Femi Oyedele, extended condolences to affected families and criticized the chronic non-compliance with fire safety standards in high-rise constructions.

The recent GNI fire is just one in a series of high-rise building fires dating back to 2013, indicating a pattern of neglect and hazards. The BCPG warned of the potential collapse of already weakened structures, including the 130-year-old Shitta Bei Mosque.
