Mark van Bommel Named Belgium's New Head Coach Until 2028

Mark van Bommel has reached an agreement to become the head coach of the Belgium National Football Team, with a contract that will keep him in charge until June 2028. He is set to replace Rudi Garcia after Belgium's 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.

Although contracts have not yet been signed, all parties have confirmed a full agreement, with an official announcement anticipated once the final paperwork is completed. Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reported the development on X, stating, “Mark van Bommel as new Belgium head coach, here we go!” This appointment marks Van Bommel's first international managerial role after successful tenures at club level, including managing PSV Eindhoven, VfL Wolfsburg, and Royal Antwerp, where he led the club to a historic league and cup double in the 2022–23 season.

Belgium aims for a new era under Van Bommel as they prepare for UEFA Euro 2028 qualification and continue to rebuild the national team following their quarter-final exit in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
