Presidency Blames Contractor for Benin-Agbor Road Failure

The Presidency has characterized the recent failure of the Benin-Agbor-Asaba Expressway as an isolated incident, attributing the issue to the contractor's shortcomings. Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, made these remarks on Channels Television on Wednesday, following President Bola Tinubu's directive for the highway's redesign and total reconstruction.

Dare noted that the Federal Government acted quickly by deploying key stakeholders to the affected area and demanding immediate action from the contractor. He emphasized that the incident should not be used to evaluate the overall state of federal road projects, as many others are progressing well.

Minister of Works, David Umahi, also addressed the situation, apologizing to commuters and taking responsibility for the highway's condition while condemning the concessionaire responsible for its reconstruction. The government is now directing efforts towards a complete reconstruction of the road, as palliative measures were deemed insufficient.
