Benin-Agbor-Asaba Highway Faces Traffic Crisis, Says Dare

On Wednesday, Sunday Dare, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, addressed the ongoing traffic crisis on the Benin-Agbor-Asaba highway during an appearance on Channels Television. He stated that while the Federal Government is responsible for funding and identifying roads needing intervention, contractors must execute projects according to agreed standards.

The highway has been plagued by severe congestion for nearly two weeks, stranding motorists and disrupting the transport of goods between Edo and Delta states. This situation has adversely affected traders relying on the route for perishable goods.

Minister of Works, David Umahi, inspected the road on Tuesday, apologizing for the hardships caused and directing steps towards total reconstruction, emphasizing that temporary measures would not suffice. Dare noted the government's swift response, which included the involvement of the National Assembly and other stakeholders, but cautioned against using this crisis to evaluate the Federal Government's overall performance in road infrastructure.
