BAECC Advances Benin-Asaba Expressway Reconstruction Efforts

The Benin-Asaba Expressway, an approximately 125-kilometre project, is currently undergoing major reconstruction and expansion. This involves extensive engineering processes such as site preparation, earthworks, drainage, pavement construction, and the installation of culverts.

The project aims to expand parts of the urban corridor into a modern 10-lane carriageway. BAECC has reported that substantial investments in private-sector resources have been made for construction equipment, materials, and logistics.

While motorists are experiencing challenges such as failed road sections and congestion, it is emphasized that these difficulties should not be seen as the final assessment of the project. Palliative work is being conducted to make the road passable while the main construction continues, especially during the rainy season, which has complicated earthworks and drainage efforts.
