BAECC to Accelerate Benin-Asaba Expressway Construction

The Benin-Asaba Expressway Concession Company Limited (BAECC) has announced plans to accelerate construction work on the 125-kilometre Benin-Asaba Expressway starting in October 2026, coinciding with the receding rainy season. CEO Samuel Daramola acknowledged the challenges faced by motorists and communities along the corridor and stated that additional personnel, equipment, and resources would be mobilized to utilize the dry season for construction.

The accelerated program will focus on drainage completion, pavement reconstruction, asphalt installation, and culvert construction. Daramola appealed for patience, citing persistent rainfall and the complexities of reconstructing a heavily trafficked highway while maintaining traffic flow as factors affecting progress.

The project operates under a 36-month construction program that includes extensive reconstruction and expansion efforts. BAECC has committed substantial private-sector resources to the project, including equipment and materials.

Daramola noted that while much preparatory work may not be visible, it is crucial for the construction of a permanent highway.
