Waya Sues Hembe Over ADC Governorship Primary Validity

Joseph Waya has initiated legal action against Herman Hembe regarding the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship primary in Benue State. The lawsuit challenges the validity of the primary, which was purportedly conducted from May 22 to May 24, 2026, with results declared on May 25, 2026.

Waya contends that the primary election did not adhere to the proper organizational structure required by the ADC constitution, arguing that the congress was previously nullified by a court judgment delivered on April 29, 2026. Furthermore, Waya questions Hembe's eligibility to contest in the primary, citing a three-month suspension imposed by the Benue State executive committee of the ADC on March 27, 2026.

The suit also mentions non-compliance with party guidelines and calls for a review of the primary's outcome. Waya, alongside fellow aspirant Peter Adejoh, urges the party to establish a new governorship electoral committee composed of individuals who are neither indigenes nor residents of Benue State to ensure neutrality and transparency in future primary processes.
