Benue Assembly Urges Probe into Rising Cases of Missing Children for Child Safety

The Benue State House Assembly has called on security agencies to investigate the increasing cases of missing children in the state. Hon.

Douglas Akya raised the motion during the plenary session, listing seven abducted children, including Kananfe Jika, Shimen Tyonenge, and Kakuman Tyonenge. The assembly highlighted the devastating effects of child trafficking and abduction on the physical, psychological, and emotional well-being of children.

Despite Nigeria being a signatory to various international conventions against child trafficking, the situation continues unabated. The motion emphasized the need for timely intervention and urged parents to be vigilant in preventing child trafficking.

The State Ministry of Women Affairs, Social Development, Ministry of Justice, and relevant agencies were called upon to support efforts to combat child trafficking.
