Benue State Enforces Compliance for Private Schools

The Benue State Education Quality Assurance Examination Board (BEQAEB), in collaboration with the Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), has commenced enforcement actions targeting private schools that have not complied with the payment of annual renewal fees. Schools are required to present proof of payment covering the past three years, as directed by Terungwa Tor, who is acting on behalf of the Executive Secretary.

The enforcement process will involve visits to private schools within the state that have not regularized their registration status. Schools that fail to submit the required documentation to their local government area tax office by April 29, 2026, risk facing sanctions, including the potential closure of their premises.

The board has warned that schools lacking valid BEQAEB certification and consent may face serious repercussions. The initiative aims to ensure compliance with quality assurance guidelines and maintain educational standards in the state.
