FG Nullifies Benue College Leadership Appointments

The Federal Ministry of Education has taken decisive action by nullifying the appointments of the provost, registrar, and bursar at a college in Benue State, citing violations of established regulations. A letter dated March 2, 2026, indicated that the appointments were made in contravention of the conditions of service for colleges of education.

The ministry, represented by Dr. Uchenna Uba, directed the governing council to suspend the exercise and re-advertise the positions in compliance with relevant regulations.

The ministry invoked its powers under Section 12 of the Federal Colleges of Education Act 2023 to nullify the appointments with immediate effect. The council has been given seven days to re-advertise the provost position to prevent an administrative vacuum, as the current provost's tenure expires in March 2026.

Additionally, a non-governmental organization expressed serious concerns over the appointment process, highlighting a broader pattern of procedural violations within tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
