Benue State Launches N150m School Grant Scheme

The Benue State Government, under the leadership of Governor Hyacinth Alia, inaugurated a N150 million school grant scheme on Monday at the headquarters of the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in Makurdi. The program aims to support public schools across the state, particularly in rural communities, by distributing motorcycles to quality assurance officers in all 23 local government areas.

Deputy Governor Sam Od emphasized the importance of education as a valuable investment and highlighted the initiative's alignment with World Bank-backed educational reforms in the state. Each headmaster and principal will receive N50,000 monthly to cover essential items such as stationery, assessment materials, first aid supplies, utility bills, and minor repairs.

Grace Adagba, SUBEB Executive Chairman, warned school administrators against collecting illegal levies from parents and pupils, stating that those found guilty would face sanctions. The event also included the presentation of school grant cheques to selected schools.
