Benue Ex-Speaker Dajoh Affirms PDP Candidacy with 36 Others

On May 22, 2026, Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh, the former Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, along with 36 other candidates, successfully affirmed their candidacy for the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming state assembly elections. Dajoh had previously withdrawn from the Progress Congress House Assembly primary elections and defected to the PDP.

His resignation as Speaker occurred in August 2025 amid a crisis within the assembly, succeeding Alfred Emberga. The affirmation of candidacies was confirmed in a statement issued by Bright Yima Antyo, the state public secretary of the PDP, made available to journalists in Makurdi.

The successful candidates include Ayo Jeremiah, Terungwa Kwand, and others across various constituencies in Benue State, indicating a significant shift in the political landscape ahead of the elections.
