Benue Governor Alia Signs Landmark Electricity Bill

On Monday, Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State signed a significant electricity bill into law, which he described as a major step toward improving power supply and attracting investment to drive economic development in the state. The new law opens the power sector to increased investment, promotes competition, enhances consumer protection, and expands access to electricity for underserved communities across Benue State.

Governor Alia characterized the legislation as a landmark achievement that will accelerate economic growth, improve power supply, and create sustainable development opportunities. He noted that the law is expected to boost business, stimulate industrial growth, and create employment opportunities while improving service delivery in urban and rural communities.

The bill, which was passed by the Benue State House of Assembly a month prior, aims to establish the Benue State Electricity Power Management Agency, providing a framework for improved electricity management and power distribution. Governor Alia urged residents to support his administration's development agenda despite the state's historical challenges in the energy sector.
