Benue State Confirms No Monkeypox Outbreak Reported

The Benue State Government has officially dismissed reports of a Monkeypox (Mpox) outbreak within the state, following investigations into a suspected case in Konshisha Local Government Area. Dr.

Paul Ogwuche, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, stated that no confirmed cases have been found. The government acted promptly by activating its disease surveillance system upon receiving reports about a suspected incident at Tyokula Achihi Residence in Korinya community.

The Director of Public Health collaborated with the State Epidemiologist to deploy a team for an on-the-ground assessment, which included collecting clinical samples for laboratory analysis. Dr.

Ogwuche emphasized that symptoms associated with Mpox can also arise from other illnesses, and only laboratory confirmation can verify a suspected case. He reassured residents that the ministry would disclose the investigation's outcome once laboratory results are available and urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information.
