Benue State Launches Committee for Peace Agreement Implementation

On September 23, 2026, the Benue State Government inaugurated a Peace Implementation Committee aimed at translating signed peace agreements into lasting peace and development. The committee was inaugurated by Governor Hyacinth Alia through his deputy, Dr. Sam Ode.

Governor Alia described this initiative as a critical transition from merely signing peace agreements to their actual implementation. He acknowledged the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue for its ongoing partnership in promoting dialogue and conflict resolution.

The governor cited specific peace agreements reached in Agatu, Konshisha, and Oju, along with the recently signed Benue Natural Resource Sharing Agreement. He outlined five priorities for the committee: institutional coordination, monitoring and reporting, inclusivity and community ownership, early warning and response, and sustainability.

Alia stressed the need for effective coordination, monitoring, accountability, community participation, and a sustained commitment from all stakeholders to prevent conflicts and address grievances.
