Benue PDP Demands Clarity from Governor on Grazing Reserve

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has called on Governor Hyacinth Alia to publicly declare his position regarding the Federal Government's proposal to establish a grazing reserve in the state. This challenge comes as opposition to the plan intensifies, with groups such as the Nigerian Catholic Diocesan Priests of Makurdi Diocese and others expressing their rejection of the initiative.

Kula Tersoo, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Alia, stated that the governor is engaged in consultations and has not taken a position against the interests of the people. He urged patience from the public while the government considers the proposal.

However, the PDP criticized the governor's silence, emphasizing that the matter is too serious for vague public relations language. They expressed concerns that the grazing reserve could lead to land grabbing, given the history of violence and displacement faced by Benue communities from armed herders.

The PDP urged Alia to address these fears openly and unequivocally.
