Alia, PDP Clash Over Killings in Benue State

Following the killing of 15 residents in Efeyi Ugboju, Otukpo Local Government Area, on Tuesday, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) engaged in a blame game. In statements released on Wednesday, the PDP and its 2027 governorship candidate, Michael Aondoakaa, accused Governor Alia of failing to protect lives and provide effective leadership.

The PDP's Publicity Secretary, Bright Antyo, criticized Alia's response to the ongoing insecurity, stating that true leadership requires decisive action and empathy. Aondoakaa further condemned the state government for prioritizing the silencing of critics over addressing the insecurity issue, noting that killings in Benue communities persist.

In response, Governor Alia, through his Chief Press Secretary Tersoo Kula, asserted that the opposition was exploiting the tragedy for political gain and emphasized the need for unity and responsible leadership during such crises. He maintained that his administration has been supporting security agencies to enhance safety and restore peace in the region.
