Benue State Suspends Muslim Pilgrims Board Leaders for Misconduct

The Benue State Executive Council has suspended Alhaji Abubakar Adamu, Chairman, and Alhaji Ahmadu Alhassan, Executive Secretary of the Benue State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, for three months effective September 21, 2026. This decision, announced by Chief Solomon Iorpev, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, follows petitions alleging misuse of Hajj slot allocations and mismanagement of funds.

The allegations against the Executive Secretary also include irregularities in the distribution of government palliatives. Chief Iorpev stated that if the allegations are proven true, they would constitute serious misconduct against the principles of public service.

The suspensions aim to facilitate a thorough investigation without interference. The Executive Council appointed Hon. Ahmed Tijani Adamu Esq. as Acting Chairman and Mr. Adamu Salihu Babi as Acting Executive Secretary to ensure continuity in the Board's operations.

The suspended officials are required to hand over all office properties immediately. The Benue State Government, led by Rev Fr Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia, emphasizes its commitment to transparency and accountability in managing public resources.
