Benue Assembly Suspends LG Chairman for Misconduct

On Thursday, the Benue State House of Assembly recommended a three-month suspension for Mr. Vitalis Neji, the Chairman of Kwande Local Government Area, due to allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office. This recommendation came after the House considered a report from an ad hoc committee formed to investigate the allegations against Neji.

Mr. Peter Ipusu, the Majority Leader and Chairman of the committee, presented the report, stating that Neji appeared before the committee but failed to satisfactorily defend himself against the allegations. Following the report's presentation and subsequent debate, members of the House unanimously urged the Speaker, Mr. Alfred Emberga, to rule on the committee’s recommendation.

Emberga ruled in favor of the suspension, which took effect immediately, pending further investigation into the allegations against Neji.
