Tinubu Launches Bensono Fruit Plant in Benue State

On Saturday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commissioned the Bensono Fruit Processing Company Limited, which has a capacity of 40,000 metric tons, in Makurdi, Benue State. The project, represented by Chief of Staff Rt.

Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, aligns with the federal government's commitment to transforming agricultural processes and developing the industrial sector.

The initiative is expected to create thousands of jobs, stimulate economic activity, increase foreign exchange earnings, and reduce Nigeria's dependence on imported fruit concentrates. Earlier, Governor Hyacinth Alia noted that the plant aims to reduce post-harvest losses and provide a ready market for farmers, serving both domestic and international markets.

The Bensono plant, alongside a fruit juice factory and food basket brewery, is part of the administration's industrial agenda to strengthen the state's economy and create employment opportunities. Managing Director of Benue Investment Property Company, Raymond Asemakaha, stated that the facility will significantly reduce fruit waste and produce organic fertilizers, further aiding in cutting Nigeria's reliance on imported fruit concentrates.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by prominent dignitaries, including former Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam and traditional rulers.
