Northern Youths Protest Against Kwankwaso's Political Moves

Northern youths expressed their discontent with former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso by burning banners bearing his image and the logo of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC). The protest included chants of "ba ma yi," a Hausa phrase meaning "we do not want," indicating their rejection of Kwankwaso's political maneuvers.

The youths are particularly upset about Kwankwaso's expectation to pair with former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi as a running mate for the 2027 presidential election. This move follows Kwankwaso's previous membership in the opposition coalition, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), from which he recently departed.

Analysts suggest that Kwankwaso's shift may favor the incumbent president, Bola Tinubu, as he seeks re-election, which the youths perceive as a breach of the opposition's unity pledge. The protest reflects a significant sentiment among northern youths regarding their political representation and loyalty.
