Trump Defends FIFA President Infantino Amid Controversy

US President Donald Trump expressed that it would be a “terrible mistake” for FIFA to consider ousting President Gianni Infantino, who is currently under pressure following accusations from UEFA, Concacaf, and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) of breaking trust through deception related to the Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE) proposal. The FFE aimed to create a new company to manage the commercial and ticketing rights of all FIFA competitions, with 21% of these rights to be sold to a private investment company.

Trump’s defense of Infantino marks his first public support since the FFE plans emerged on July 28. He stated on social media that Infantino is “fantastic” and credited him for presiding over the most successful World Cup ever.

The 2026 World Cup was co-hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico, with Spain winning against Argentina in the final. Thrive Eternal, an American venture capital firm founded by Joshua Kushner, was expected to lead the proposed investor group for FFE.
