UEFA Withdraws Support for FIFA President Infantino

UEFA has publicly withdrawn its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino, stating that confidence has been lost due to a secret plan to allow private investment in the World Cup. In a statement released on Saturday, UEFA accused FIFA of acting in a “shabby, back room, opaque” manner.

Infantino's proposal, which could have raised up to $4.2 billion, was met with fierce opposition from UEFA, which threatened to boycott all FIFA competitions. Although Infantino announced the withdrawal of the proposal, UEFA emphasized that he had lost their confidence and that of other members of the football family.

UEFA criticized Infantino for failing to uphold promises made during his election in 2016 regarding transparency and the use of FIFA's funds. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) also welcomed the plan's withdrawal but used less direct language.
